Vacuum Coffee Maker
Moving to Japan - electrical appliances :O(?
Looking at moving to Japan permanently in the next two months. I'm in the UK and we use 240V on the mains. In Japan they use 110V so I'm guessing my electrical items aren't going to work - coffee maker, vacuum cleaner, kettle, toaster, etc. What are my options? Can I somehow rewire them?
According to the web site below, Japan uses 100 VAC in it's electric grid. As far as I know, it's the only country that does. Another odd thing is that it's listed as using both 50 and 60 Hz. Eastern Japan is 50 Hz and Western Japan is 60 Hz. Sounds crazy to me because you couldn't link the entire electric system together. They would have to be separate systems and couldn't share power, at least not easily.
Buy it would probably be a lot easier to sell your electrical equipment and buy local stuff in Japan. You can't rewire them very easily if at all.
