What's the key to making GOOD shots of espresso with a small espresso machine??
Im trying to figure out how to use this small, pump-style espresso maker... it runs fine, but after about 4 sec. the espresso comes out thin & watery... why are there 2 sizes of the insert cup thingy that holds the grounds? how/when do i use the steam tube? can i make a cappuccino?
Small espresso makers can lack the high build-up of pressure and volume of steam that's required to get a good "shot" out of the grounds. It's probably got two sizes for a "single" shot and a "double" shot. The steam tube is supposed to be used after you "pull" the shot; you stick a container of dairy product (milk, 2% milk, etc.) up under the tube, making sure it's submerged before the steam comes out; steam until it is scalded or reaches the recommended temperature for "latte" (I forget what it is), or you increase the volume of the foam to about double for a cappuccino. Stir the dairy into the shot, leaving a trail and/or head of foam on top for a cappuccino. Best & safest bet: consult the manufacturer's manual for your appliance.
